Thanks – Giving

I truly love this time of year. I have learned to step back and unplug from all the ‘busyness’ while the rest of the world ramps up for the holidays.

I wrote a blog a few years ago and attached an article about the true story of Thanksgiving. (Spoiler Alert: what they taught me in school was not the truth) One of my readers asked if there would be a “Part 2”. I decided, yes, there would be and here it is!

I am including a great article I read recently (it’s not long) that I really liked. Click here to read it. It has some great ideas on taking some simple actions to actually make a difference. The focus here in Part 2 is on the Giving.

For my family & I, these past few years, we decided to cook only one turkey (instead of the traditional 2), we do not have ham any more, and we have added more vegetarian and even a few vegan dishes in the form of: local pumpkin (in pie form), locally foraged cranberries from our town cranberry bog (in sauce form), locally foraged mushrooms, clams that we go digging for, apple chutney and even maple syrup that I make…..you get the picture. I am so very thankful to those that gave me the instruction and shared the knowledge of how to harvest and live in a community with the land. Let the food you eat nourish your body & soul.

My hope for you is that as you celebrate Thanks-Giving this year, you cultivate a deeper true meaning of expressing Thanks, by your Giving of love & nourishment from the food you prepare as you celebrate being together. Why not go one step further and go around the table and share with everyone one thing you are thankful for this season and how you will be giving this season?

Happy Thanks-Giving
