How to Prep for the Holidays (Mindfully + With Heart)

The holidays have a way of sneaking up on us, don’t they? The gatherings, the emotions, the buzzing energy, the endless to-do lists—it all comes rushing in at once. That’s why I wanted to re-share the Holistic Nature of Us podcast with Judith Dreyer to hear about something we all need this time of year: slowing down, tuning in, and preparing ourselves energetically for the season ahead.

Judith and I dove into what it really means to move through the holidays with intention—how to stay centered, present, and grounded while still enjoying all the beauty of family, friends, and celebration.

This conversation felt like a breath of fresh air, and I’m thrilled to share some of the highlights with you.

Honoring Your Energy Before the Holidays Begin

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years is this: you can’t pour from an empty cup. The holidays tend to draw a lot of energy out of us—emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually. So before the season ramps up, I always begin by checking in with myself.

On the podcast, I shared simple ways to do this:

  • Step outside for fresh air, even if it’s just a few minutes.
  • Ground yourself by feeling your feet on the earth.
  • Pause long enough to take inventory of your energy—no judgment, just awareness.

These small practices create big shifts. They help you reconnect with yourself so you can show up fully for the moments that matter.

Creating Space for Gratitude

Gratitude doesn’t just lift your mood—it expands your perspective. During the holidays, it’s one of the most powerful tools you can use.

Judith and I talked about how taking a moment each day to acknowledge what’s going well can help you stay rooted and calm. Gratitude softens the edges of stress. It brings you back into alignment. And it allows you to experience the season with a little more joy and a lot more ease.

Staying Centered Amid the Holiday Buzz

Between gatherings, travel, family dynamics, and nonstop schedules, the holiday season can stir up any number of emotions. That’s why grounding is essential.

I shared several practices that help me stay centered—even when life gets loud:

These aren’t luxuries—they’re tools. And they help us move through the season in a way that feels balanced, intentional, and loving.

Celebrating With Joy, Openness, and Heart

Above all, the holidays are an invitation to connect. To share space. To laugh. To reflect. To love.

This is a season that holds so much meaning, but it also holds so many opportunities for presence. When we take the time to prepare ourselves—energetically, emotionally, and spiritually—we get to experience the holidays from a grounded and authentic place.

My own holiday season stretches through New Year’s, and every year I feel reminded that joy isn’t something we chase—it’s something we allow. When we pause, breathe, and honor ourselves, joy naturally bubbles up.
